Now that the cold weather is here I bring you a tutorial that Patricia asked me to do. She wanted a winter hat with matching scarf … I’ll teach you how to make a collar scarf with knitting loom and it also applies to a hat (the last step is different). Furthermore it is very fast to do and does not require knitting knowledge.
For the collar I used a loom 24 centimeters in diameter, about 100 grams of thick acrylic wool, a hook and a tapestry needle. For the hat you can use a smaller loom about 19 centimeters (or other measure depending on the head).
To start the thread is fastened to the edge of the loom and the yarn is wound around each pin loosely counterclockwise until completing a lap.
After completing the first lap continue by winding the yarn thread around each pin to have two rows of threads on the loom.
Then continue winding the thread onto the edge of the loom to avoid tearing up the collar as we weave.
Now with the hook start lifting the bottom row of the thread above each pin until completing the loom.
Then wrap the thread to the knitting loom again and repeat the operation until you have the desired length. For example for a small hat length is usually about 18 centimeters, 20 centimeters for a medium hat and 23 centimeters for a large hat.
To finish the work we must ensure that there is enough thread to do two laps to the loom. Thread the tapestry needle and pass the needle through the first loop and successive pins until the entire lap.
Now lift up each loop from its pin and if want to make a hat pull the thread tight to close it and secure it with a square knot.
For the collar, stretch the thread so it is not tight and ensure the work with a simple knot.
